Four Season Garden

Four Season Garden at The Morton ArboretumA small formal garden designed to provide visual interest throughout the year can be found in front of the Thornhill Education Center at The Morton Arboretum.

Originally planted in 1994, the 2,000-square-foot garden contains more than 70 different kinds of plants.

The outer beds are filled with perennials and shrubs that offer their best show at different times of the year. The small circular bed in the center changes with the seasons. During the growing season, it holds colorful annuals. In winter, the bed is dressed up with winter greens and bright branches.

Notable plants include Chinese white-stemmed raspberry (Rubus cockburnianus), globe blue spruce (Picea pungens 'Globosa'), and Tennessee coneflower (Echinacea tennesseensis).
